Notes on Being - Letter No. 4
An ode to the Car Coat & a postcard from Mallorca
Welcome to Letter No. 4 – a little late this time, delayed by travels.
It’s been a few days since we returned from Mallorca, our first trip together as a family of three. In many ways it was both our long-awaited honeymoon and our babymoon, we never took a honeymoon after our wedding, as I was already too pregnant to fly. So these days became a celebration of sorts: late summer, slow mornings and the gentle rhythm that comes when the days are yours to simply fill.
I’m trying to hold on to the slowness of those Mediterranean days. I really want this season to carry the same slower way of moving through life.
Below, a note on a great piece for transitional dressing, a few autumnal treasures at home, and a postcard from Mallorca.
The Wardrobe - an ode to the Car Coat
What I’m wearing: Gant car coat, Massimo Dutti loafers, Arket denim, Almada cashmere & The Row Park tote
Transitional dressing is all about pieces that move with the weather: light enough for late summer, yet ready to layer when the air turns crisp. The car coat is that piece for me, a piece I return to season after season. It never feels overthought, yet always pulls a look together. Below, I’ve gathered a few of my favorite styles in store right now.

At Home
At home, I’ve gathered a few autumnal treasures, stocking up on my favorite tea and candles. My mom and I spent a Sunday afternoon at Ulriksdal Palace Gardens, picking up new terracotta pots and plants for both indoors and outdoors. I love their self-serve flower garden this time of the year, a lovely city escape!
Postcard from Mallorca
6 things I've worn, seen and loved at Mallorca:
We rented a house in Sóller through Airbnb and it was truly magical. I loved staying in the mountains close other beautiful places like Deià and Valldemossa.
Our favorite beach, Cala Tuent, is tucked into the Tramuntana mountains. The drive there is breathtaking, and it’s almost never crowded.
Don’t miss the iconic Fundación Miró in Palma!
I lived in this striped Dagmar shirt and can’t wait to pair it with denim for fall.
Lunch by the ocean at Hotel Bendinat, best seafood and view.
We were lucky to be neighbors with the wonderful Hotel Corazón – go for cocktails and dinner!
Until next time
To end, four things bringing me inspiration lately:
The House & Garden September issue - the colours, the sofa, everything!
I’m beyond proud of and endlessly inspired by my best friend Fanny for launching her own brand Dhoemi. Something she’s poured her heart, soul and vision into over the past years. Every detail reflects her - make sure to follow for more!
Lately, I’ve found myself longing for more structure. I’m craving a fresh Smythson calendar to bring a little order to the season ahead.
I’m always inspired by my friend Julia and her thoughtful Substack, Arts & Tea. I recently joined her there for a conversation on the art of manifestation, and it’s a space I think you’d love to explore too.
Notes on Being returns in two weeks. Until then, take care of all the small things and quiet joys in your life.
x Martina
